Homemade Breadsticks

We make this all the time for salads or sometimes for Pizza Night. These are the ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 T non fat dry milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1 T sugar
  • 2 T extra virgin olive oil + 2 T extra
Topping:
  • Melted butter (or some olive oil would do)
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 1/2 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp of oregano
  • 1 tsp of basil
  • salt and pepper
Directions:
In a medium bowl mix water, sugar an yeast. Let the yeast proof for 15 minutes until it foams. This lets you know the yeast is active.

Mix everything and then knead on a lightly floured surface for about 6 minutes.

This is how it looks like when it has risen DOUBLE its size. Punch down to take air out.

Now oil a cooking sheet with the extra olive oil, and with your fingers extend the dough to fit. Cut in half and then cut your bread sticks as wide as you want, but not all the way through.

Meanwhile, mix ingredients for topping. Let them rise for 45 minutes.
Here they are after 45 minutes! Sprinkle topping mixture. You can actually put your melted butter in this step, but I just brush them with olive oil.
 Bake @ 450 for 15-18 minutes
We dip them in Ragu. Yum!
