Baking Soda Experiment

This is the easiest baking soda "volcano" experiment that you do with stuff you have in your pantry. My kids had some friends over and they started to get a little "bored" since it was so hot outside and they were playing with water, they needed a "boost of fun" to keep them motivated in their backyard adventures. I am pretty sure you have seen this before, but this is how we do it. First, you need:

  • Baking soda
  • Food coloring
  • Vinegar
  • Clear plastic cups
  • Spoons
  • Baking sheet
Step one: Put drops of food coloring in spoons. This will be the "mystery color"

Step two: Fill the cups 3/4 of the way with vinegar.

Step three: put a good amount of baking soda on top of the food coloring.

Step four: let kids put the spoon on vinegar and mix.

Step five: watch it erupt!!!! The funny thing was they did not know it would have different colors! They were surprised!

Somebody was a little scared...

And keep adding once more! After the second try, it will stop exploding! but they kept trying...
