Baking Soda Explosions

How is your summer going? Ours is going great. We have been working in some of our science experiments and having fun outside. We got two slip n'slides and the kids have been playing a lot with water when the weather permits. Since our last summer adventures with baking soda, the kids have been fascinated at all the possibilities with it. My middle son wants to do the volcano everyday. Today I will show you our explosion experiment which is super easy and super fun.
You will need:

  • Baking Soda
  • Vinegar
  • Warm water
  • measuring cups
  • paper towels
  • plastic bags.

First, cut squares of paper towels and add about 1 1/2 to 2 tsp of baking soda

Wrap them up like a little packet

Then have the kids help you add about 1 cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of warm water

This is the tricky part: drop the baking soda packets into the bag and IMMEDIATELY seal the bag. If you take too long to seal the bag and the baking soda starts to fizzle it may not explode. They will start to blow....

The kids had a blast! They wanted to do this over and over...try it and tell me about it!
